1950’s Trend

Fifties style history. Nine out of ten ladies at a party had been carrying a black costume. The “New Look,” which is most associated with girls’s high trend, began with French designer Christian Dior (1905-1957) within the late Forties but was modified to swimsuit American tastes. In short interviews Elsa Billgren (TV and radio host, blogger, classic professional), Marina Kereklidou (designer and stylist) and Kristina Sandberg (creator of a trilogy of novels about housewife Maj) share their views on Fifties style, way of life and relevance in a recent context.

Short, non-fitted suit jackets typically strung with brass buttons and pockets, nearly at all times opened to point out the blouse inside; sleeves peeled again to point out a shirt’s cuffs; magnificent fakes comparable to yards of pearls” and colored stones looped around the throat, or a jeweled Maltese cross winking on a lapel; Bretons perched on the back of the head; pull-overs that matched a jacket’s lining; jerseys, tweeds, brocades; her famous lace evening clothes — all have been stamped with elegant nonchalance.1950s fashion

The British fashion trade began to develop shifting away from the U.S Styles and fabrics were being influenced by British designers who have been celebrating the feminine hourglass figure. Nonetheless cited as one of the memorable, elegant wedding attire of all time, her Helen Rose robe even went on to encourage a future royal bride-to-be – Kate Middleton.1950s fashion

Solely a minority of women might afford to wear couture designer garments in the fifties and the vast majority of women wore mass produced items. Belgian singers Jacques Brel and Bobbejaan Schoepen wear modified pompadour hairstyles, fits with sharply peaked lapels, and patterned ties, 1955. By mid-decade hats were worn less ceaselessly, particularly as fuller hairstyles just like the quick, curly poodle cut and later bouffant and beehive grew to become modern.1950s fashion

Even working ladies’s clothing hinted at delicacy, with pencil-slim skirts, and little hats with veil and feathers. The Rat Pack style of suits and trilby hats was a preferred choice for ages over 30. An off-the-cuff country model clothes of checks and cardigans were worn in a lighter styled material. Worn with evening put on reminiscent of cocktail clothes or lengthy silk skirts, cashmere or lambs wool and angora wool cardigans were embellished with beads, self embroidery, trapunto quilted areas, appliqués, sequins, rhinestones and lace.
